If you have applied for a business license in Clark County you will need to have fire department approval before your license can be issued. No matter what type of business you plan to open, an inspector will conduct an onsite inspection to ensure that all safety requirements are met.

When you apply for your business license, there are several steps that must be completed before the Fire Department becomes involved. Once zoning has been approved, and the remaining requirements are complete, you may request a Fire Department inspection.

In order to expedite your application process, please be sure that your business is ready for the inspection. A Business License representative will have you fill out a Permit Survey form. If you answered YES to any of the questions, a Fire Department permit may be required. Your Permit Survey form will be sent to the Fire Department for review. The Fire Department will identify any required permits and will fax the form back to you. Make sure that you include your fax number on the form!

If you are planning to open a business that uses certain practices and materials, you may be required to obtain a fire department permit. If a permit is required, the business license will be issued AFTER the permit has been attained. For a list of permitted activities, see the How-To Guides.

If your business deals with the use or storage of hazardous materials, there are additional requirements that must be met before a license will be issued.

To avoid delays in the process, do your best to secure all permits and reduce or eliminate violations prior to the inspection. The inspector will have to make a return visit if violations are found that cannot be corrected at the time of the initial inspection.

Please refer to the checklist to see what else you can do to prepare for your inspection.

When all the requirements are met and you are ready for your inspection, decide whether you want your inspection performed on the regular Fire Department Business License inspection schedule (Tuesday Thursday from 8:00 AM 4:00 PM), or if you need to request an overtime inspection (M-F before 7:00 am and after 5:00 pm, all day Saturday and Sunday). Note that while the Fire Department does not charge for Business License inspections performed during regular hours, fees apply for overtime inspections.

Note that the Fire Department does not schedule Business License inspections on Monday or Friday.

Fire Department Business License inspections performed during normal business hours–

1. If you applied for a Business License before 4/12/11, use the lookup tool to find your application number. Otherwise, Create an Online Business License Application.

2. Use your application number to schedule your inspection online.

Overtime Business License Inspections

Contact a Fire Department scheduler if you need to have your business license inspection performed on overtime. Do not submit an online inspection application; the Scheduler will create an application for you. Prepayment of fees is required for all Business License inspections performed on overtime.
